I’m a school-based occupational therapist with over 16 years of experience supporting students in the activities and environments that matter to them. My work today focuses on comprehensive school-based OT assessments and Independent Educational Evaluations, bringing together assessment data, observation, and input from families and educators to understand the whole student.
WHY ARTFUL OT WORLD?
Artful OT World began with a simple goal: to help families better understand and navigate the systems surrounding their child’s care and education. Over time, I discovered that assessment was where my experience, curiosity, and passion came together.
I genuinely enjoy the assessment process. I think of it as putting together the pieces of a puzzle—looking at assessment results, observations, family and teacher perspectives, and a student’s everyday participation to understand not only what is happening, but why.
I’ve also seen how challenging it can be for families to navigate the differences between medical or clinical occupational therapy and school-based occupational therapy. Recommendations that are appropriate in one setting may not always translate directly to another, and understanding those differences can be confusing.
My goal is to help bridge that gap by providing comprehensive evaluations that consider the whole student while keeping the educational environment at the center of the assessment.
A PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE
Along with my professional experience, I also understand the special education process from a parent’s perspective. As the parent of a child with a disability who has an IEP, I’ve experienced firsthand what it is like to navigate evaluations, services, meetings, and educational decisions for your own child.
That experience has shaped the way I work with families. I understand how overwhelming the process can sometimes feel, and I believe families deserve information that is clear, meaningful, and helps them better understand their child’s needs and educational options.
